Fun Facts About Children

11/20/2015

Children can always bring a smile to our faces and just as quickly frustrate us beyond words. But one thing that is undeniable is that they can definitely touch our heart. In celebration of Universal Children's Day, here are 9 fun facts about children that you may not have known before:

1. A 3-year old boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.
(I know that explains a lot for some mummies :)

2. Watching television can act as a natural painkiller for children.
(It does not cure fevers though so don’t try your luck)

3. On average, a 4-year-old child asks 437 questions a day. (ONLY?)

4. If babies’ bodies grew at the same rapid pace as their brains, they would weigh 170 pounds by one month of age. (Thank God for His wisdom)

5. Until the age of six or seven months, a child can breathe and swallow at the same time.
(75% of adults reading this will try to do it!)

6. The authoritative parenting style is often identified as the best style overall. This style is more likely to produce children who are competent, confident, and happy. Parents with this style of parenting listen to their children and provide warmth and support, but provide limits, expectations, and consequences for behaviour. (Good advice)

7. Siblings fight a lot. One researcher found that brothers and sisters between 3 and 7 years old engage in conflict 3.5 times an hour. Younger kids fight even more, with a fight happening every 10 minutes.(Makes you rethink having a second baby)

8. The eldest children in families tend to develop higher IQ than their siblings. (Thank God I am an only child)

9. Child beauty pageants are illegal in France, and punishable with up to 2 years in prison.
(now that’s a bit harsh)

Hope these interesting facts brought a smile to your day.

Next time you see your child give them a big hug and kiss and thank God that despite their idiosyncrasies they are still very much a blessing to your life… :)
